BOARD OF CHILD CARE
POSITION: Behavior Intervention Specialist
POSITION RESPONSIBLE TO: Coordinator of Behavior Interventions & Support
CATEGORY OF EMPLOYMENT: Salaried / Exempt
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
 Provide ongoing supervision of students in the resource room.
 Respond to staff requests for assistance in managing crises.
 Insure that following a restraint, the child is seen by the Nurse.
 Insure that Serious Incident Reports are completed and routed.
 Provide coverage in classrooms, as needed.
 Demonstrate understanding of roles of other personnel in the team approach setting.
 Assess potential crisis situations involving both individuals and groups and utilize necessary resources to de-escalate and/or defuse these situations.
 Respond quickly and appropriately to crises, at times requiring the use of physical restraint, using the least restrictive intervention necessary to de-escalate the situation.
 Demonstrate familiarity with cultural pattern existing within a community that may affect the behavior of students.
 Demonstrate knowledge of human development, including understanding of the factors that contribute to dysfunctional behavior.
 Perform other professional duties, as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS:
 Bachelor’s degree in a human resource field
 Certification in Basic First Aid and CPR required
 Work cooperatively with others.
 Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
 Able to operate agency vehicles, i.e., valid Maryland Driver’s License.
OTHER:
 Performance evaluation will be conducted yearly.
 Introductory period is for three (3) months.
